When we first began to edit our film we decided on the song by Rag and Boneman called Human. The reason for this decision was because of the heavy beat. We liked how when slowed down it created a creepy vibe. In addition when removing the voice, we thought it would create a tense atmosphere. However, we have decided against this as it is copyright.
The background music we have now, definitely fits the genre conventions better and builds up a tense and ghostly atmosphere. The sound was taken from Purple Planet, it is slow and dramatic building up the suspense. We originally planned on just having the music over the top of the footage however, it did not make sense to the audience which is why voice overs of an interrogation has been added. This makes it clear to the audience what is going on. Moreover, some sound affects have been added such as the phone ringtone and the heartbeat. This makes the film flow better and also the heart beat builds up a rapport between the character and the audience. It provides a sense of intimacy.
The voice over at the end, of the news report, was originally planned. Then we changed our idea. However, because people struggled to understand what had happened we decided to include it again. Now it makes it clear to the audience what has happened but also creates enigma.
