Preliminary evaluation.

The reason for making a preliminary film is to help us understand and become familiar with editing and how to make a successful short film. 

When filming our preliminary film, we did not consider the story. We did not plan any of it, this meant that the overall process took a lot longer than we anticipated. When we make our film opening, we will certainly carefully consider the the planning process and be 100% sure on what our aim is. This will make to filming and editing process more straight forward as less time consuming. 
However, when filming the prelim film, it enabled us to understand what shots work well in general and which ones work well together. It will be helpful to look back at this when considering our story board for our film opening. It also taught us of media rules. For example, the 180C rule, by following this rule it doesn't confuse the audience. 
We did experience a number of issues when filming. We did not consider where we would be filming, as it was busy and loud, lengthening the process further. In addition, we did film one shot wrong which we realized when editing, meaning that we had to re-film. The shot was not following the 180C rule. Furthermore, as we had never used Premier pro before, we struggled to come to terms with the software. It once again lengthened the process and stopped us from achieving what we wanted. The transitions are simple, showing our lack knowledge. 
The non-diegetic music in the background creates a sad atmosphere but also rather tense with the loud beats. We did not know how to make the music quieter when the speech occurred in the scene, making it sound weird. Also there is little diegetic sound in our short film, which looks unusual and doesn't make the narrative clear. 
The shots were continuous, it made editing a lot easier. In addition, we filmed a number of the same shots which enables us to have a choice. It was once again easier when editing. 
To conclude, when it comes to making our film opening, we will definitely take time in planning and organizing what we want to achieve. Moreover, in terms of editing, we will attempt to do invisible editing. This means that there aren't in unnecessary harsh cuts or poor sound. We will take time with editing and not rush it.
